You’ll be amazed to learn that purple passion fruit is among the fruits that have great economic importance in Kenya today. The country’s great demand for purple passion in both local and export markets has attracted many Kenyan farmers who have not finalized the race due to several challenges. 

However, in order to achieve qualitative and quantitative production, purple passion fruit plants need training, pruning, weeding, fertilizing and crop protection. They can be grown even in small plots like fence lines and erect plant support to avoid them from falling on the ground.

One advantage of this fruit is they take a shorter duration of 8-9 months to start producing, making one not to wait long to start enjoying their returns.

An acre fits 650 seedlings with a spacing of 2 meters and 3 meters and holes size 2ft by 2ft separating the top soil and sub-soils and mixing the top soil with a bucket farm yard manure (20kgs). Averagely per season a vine is expected to yield 23 kilograms in turn returns per season should be as follows;

Cost of establishment= Averagely 350,000 (seedlings + poles + labor + management)

650 seedlings * 23 kg= 14,950kg

14,950kg * 70 shs.= Ksh.1,046,500/-

Profits= 1,046,500 – 350,000= Ksh. 696,500/-
